This morning I sent out the following press release, announcing that I have become a candidate for state representative. Southington and Berlin have not been well served by this legislature, and it is time for a change of course.

Please get in touch and share your concerns throughout this campaign. I will do my best to meet all the voters of the 30th district, but I need your help. Together, we can and will get Connecticut back on track.

-Jim

Jim Sargent to Run for State Representative in 30th District

SOUTHINGTON – Jim Sargent (R-Southington) announced that he has filed the necessary paperwork to become a candidate for state representative in the 30th district of Southington and Berlin. Calling for a change of course in state politics, Jim Sargent pointed to the results of the current legislature.

“Connecticut residents know the problems we face, but our state legislature doesn’t have the answers. Taxes are too high, the state is hemorrhaging jobs, and politicians are playing games with issues that matter to people’s lives. It needs to stop,” said Sargent. “I am running for state representative because we have a unique opportunity to replace the failed Democratic supermajority with a more thoughtful and balanced legislature. It is not an opportunity we can afford to pass up.”

Sargent is committed to running a positive campaign about how we can make Connecticut a better place. He will not engage in personal attacks or divisive politics and calls on his opponent, Representative Joe Aresimowicz, to do the same.

“Joe is a great guy, but he’s become part of the problem in Hartford. I am confident that we will have a civil discussion of Connecticut’s problems. Representative Aresimowicz and I have always had a friendly relationship and I don’t expect that to change. We will spend the coming months talking about how the legislature can make Connecticut more job-friendly and get our state back on track. As a state representative, I want to bring people together to get things done. This campaign will be no different.”

As an independent candidate for Town Council in 2009, Jim Sargent emphasized his commitment to education and productive bipartisanship. He will continue the discussion of these issues and others during this campaign.

“Residents of Southington and Berlin are either looking for work or worried that their jobs might be gone tomorrow. For the sake of Connecticut families, we need to dispose of this partisan ‘my way or the highway’ approach and start putting our heads together for the good of the state. To give jobs a reason to come to Connecticut, we need a renewed commitment to our schools, tax reform, and an energy policy that doesn’t chase residents and jobs from Connecticut.”

Jim Sargent, a Republican candidate for state representative, currently serves on the Southington Town Building Maintenance Committee. He is a 2003 graduate of Southington High School and a 2008 graduate of Northeastern University.
