Bio
Jim Sargent is currently a graduate student of education and serves on the Southington Town Building Maintenance Committee. A proud product of Southington’s public schools, he has been committed to public service since a very young age.
At seven years old, Jim Sargent was writing letters to candidates for elected office. Various political campaign signs adorned the walls of his bedroom. Since then, he has taken every opportunity to get involved at all levels of government. Jim has worked with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, always looking for meaningful results over partisanship and extreme ideology.
Sargent credits his commitment to public service to his parents, a police officer and daycare provider who instilled in him a strong work ethic, boundless energy, and an insatiable desire to improve the community around him. While at Northeastern University, Jim studied under Governor Michael Dukakis, learning the ins and outs of public service and policymaking.
A former president of the Northeastern University Democrats, Jim became a Republican in 2009 after his independent campaign for town council allowed him to look at both parties objectively, considering their commitment to results over partisanship. He is now running for state representative in the 30th district, consisting of the towns of Berlin and Southington. Sargent hopes to restore thoughtful, balanced, and bipartisan government to Connecticut in order to improve our schools and bring jobs to our community.
